Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake student killed in overnight crash
GLENVILLE — A Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School student was killed in a one-car rollover crash late Friday on Charlton Road.
Deacon Martucci, 16, was traveling eastbound when his 2013 Jeep Wrangler veered off the road, striking a number of trees in the yard of a private home at around 10:00 p.m. He was transported to Ellis Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police believe speed played a factor in the crash.
“Speed was really a factor here,” Glenville Police Chief Stephen Janik told the Times Union. “It’s a pretty tragic accident for the Glenville and Burnt Hills community.”
Martucci was the sole victim in the crash. He was a rising junior and played on the school’s football team.
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District offered grief counseling on Saturday. Additional counseling will be offered at the high school from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday and again on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Our hearts are filled with grief and sadness today as the BH-BL Community mourns the loss of one of our students,” the district said in a statement posted to its website. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of high school junior Deacon Martucci, who was involved in a fatal car accident last night.”
