SOFTBALL: Cohoes standout to play for Siena in 2018

LOUDONVILLE — The Siena College softball team has added three student athletes to its 2018 roster on Monday, including Isabelle DeChiaro of Cohoes High School.

“I’m very excited to play for a hometown team,” said DeChiaro. “I am excited for my Family to be able to see me Play softball for another 4 years, but it makes it even better that the hometown team I’ll be playing for is Siena. The coaches are amazing and I’m glad I get to wear green & gold.”

In 2015, DeChiaro was named a New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) Class B co-player of the year and helped to bring a Section II title to the spindle city. She is also a five-time Cohoes High School Team MVP as well as a two-time Colonial Council MVP and also played soccer at Cohoes.

“Isabelle comes from an extremely competitive high school and travel team,” noted Siena coach Billi LaJeunesse. “We are looking for her to compete right away for pitching time in the circle as well as being a contributor in the middle of the lineup offensively. She has the ability to pitch but play a position and we hopefully see her breaking into the lineup right away whether in the circle or as a position player.”

The two term Class President and National Honor Society member is not the only addition to the roster. The Saints have also added a pair of prospects from California and Arizona.

“The 2017 recruiting class will provide our program with depth in a number of areas,” LaJeunesse went on to say. “With the players we have added to the roster we have impact players in the circle as well as in the middle infield and behind the plate. We are looking for all of our freshmen to compete for starting positions right away and have an impact on our team on both sides of the ball offensively and defensively.”

in 2017, the Lady Saints had their seventh straight 20-win season and achieved a program-record of 14 Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference (MAAC) victories.
