Guilderland teen dies after Hurst Road crash, two others remain in Hospital

GUILDERLAND — 17-year-old Alyssa Gelfand has died from injuries sustained in a Sunday night crash on Hurst Road, police say. 

Two other teens, 16-year-old Sophia Melfie and 17-year-old Sergio Medina remain at Albany Medical Center. 

The Guilderland Central School District has released the following statement:  

This evening, local police confirmed that one of our high school students, Alyssa Gelfand, passed away as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred on Sunday night. We extend our deepest sympathy to Alyssa’s family and friends, and to the many people whose lives she touched. During this difficult time as the school community processes the tragic news, counseling services are available to support our students and staff. We are awaiting details regarding services, but will share that information when it becomes available.
