Checking in on the Yankees post trade deadline

Today at 4:00pm we reached the end of the 2016 trade deadline. What a crazy past week for all the MLB teams. If I were to pick a team that in theory “won” the trade deadline, it would be the Yankees. Earlier today they traded the top batter on the team, Carlos Beltran to the Texas Rangers and struggling pitcher Ivan Nova to the Pittsburgh Pirates for two PTBA. The Yankees right now have 6 of Keith Law’s top 50 prospects in the minors. They had three before the Aroldis Chapman trade last week.

In the Carlos Beltran trade, the Yankees receive 3 pitchers Dillon Tate, Erik Swanson and Nick Green. Dillon Tate was the Texas Rangers first round pick in the 2015 draft. So that right there is a steal for the Yankees, let alone get two more right handed pitchers. Now Tate has really struggled this season, he is 3-3 with a 5.12 ERA in 16 starts, but Brian Cashman thinks Tate can fix his problems in Level A with the coaching staff.

So since the Yankees are sellers, just how long will this team be in rebuilding mode? 2 months. Thats right, Yankee fans don’t have to worry. I don’t expect Brian Cashman to make this rebuilding process two to three years. Going forward this season you can expect to see Aaron Judge make his MLB debut and see Alex Rodriguez take over as the everyday designated hitter. I see Cashman going into the offseason trying to get Edwin Encarnacion, chasing after pitchers like Chris Sale and Chris Archer with some of the top prospects the Yankees got in the past 24 hours.

  1. The New York Mets’ first post-trade deadline game didn’t exactly go the way they wanted it to, as they coughed up a late lead to the New York Yankees.
