ValleyCats Drop Home Finale Against Staten Island
In a season filled with close losses, the final home game for the ValleyCats resulted in, well, a close loss.
Tri-City dropped their final home game against the Staten Island Yankees 5-4 on Saturday night. And with 3 road games remaining on the season, they are at .500 with 37 wins and losses.
Things didn’t start out well, as Staten Island tallied up 5 runs in the first 4 innings. The pitching was strong for them as well, as starter Chad Martin went 5.1 innings allowing just 4 hits, but the ‘Cats would strike him for 3 runs in the 6th. It would end up being a 4-run inning. Cutting the Staten Island deficit to 1.
But that would be all the offense the ‘Cats would produce, as Josh Roeder and Justin Kamplain pitched 3 scoreless innings to preserve a 5-4 victory for Staten Island.
The Yankees would also clinch a playoff berth with the victory. Staten Island defeated Tri-City in the semifinals last season.
The ValleyCats will finish the season in Connecticut. And that will officially be it for them in 2016. Also, a great crowd for the final home game, with over 5,700 fans showing their support.
