Siena’s Scarbrough named MAAC player of the week
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Siena junior guard Kollyns Scarbrough earned MAAC Players of the Week honors. This is both her first weekly award of the season, and first collegiate weekly award.
The Jamaica, New York native averaged 23 points per game this week as the Saints went 2-0 in conference play. Starting off the week against Canisius, Scarbrough scored 12 points to help the Saints take down the Golden Griffs. She went six-for-eight (.750) from the field during the contest. Scarbrough then set a new career-high 34 points against Monmouth. Her 34-point effort is tied with four others for most points scored by a Siena player in 34 years since Mary Gaudreau ‘83 tallied 36 points at LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 19, 1983.
On the week she averaged 23 points per game while going 15-for-25 (.600) from the field and 15-for-20 (.750) from the charity stripe. Scarbrough grabbed 13 boards, including nine against the Hawks. She recorded two steals, one block and two assists on the week. Her 20 free throw attempts ties a program record for most free-throw attempts in a game, and her 15 made free-throws is one off of the program record.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 as they host MAAC perennial power Marist at the Alumni Recreation Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
