Yager leads Maple Hill Boys Soccer to Senior Night glory in win over Hudson

CASTLETON, NY — The Maple Hill boys varsity soccer team played for a lot more than just another win Tuesday afternoon against the Blue Hawks of Hudson.

For one it was Senior Night, the last regular season home game of the year. If that wasn’t enough, the Wildcats were playing for a shot at the Patroon Conference championship with their undefeated record in tow.

When all was said and done, Maple Hill would win in all facets, downing Hudson 3-1 thanks to one outstanding junior.

With the game tied at 1-1 and less than 20 minutes remaining in the game, Alec Yager headed one in to put MH up 2-1, but he wasn’t done there. Seven minutes later, again it was Yager who put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Wildcats a huge 2 goal lead (3-1) with time running out. “It felt good, but it wasn’t just me,” said Yager.

Senior Ethan Samarija, who played a big part in both of Yager’s goals, described just how big it was to get the win, “It’s real nice to win and know that we got the Patroon Conference championship heading into Fall Sports weekend.”

Maple Hill’s next game will come as mentioned by Samarija during Maple Hill’s Fall Sports weekend tournament, this Saturday at 3:15 p.m. against Glens Falls.
