Shaker product Seymour commits to Siena

New coach Jamion Christian gets second Class of 2018 commit

LATHAM — Shaker senior basketball star Sloan Seymour announced his commitment to play basketball at Siena College next year, he announced on Twitter Sunday evening.

Seymour, who stands at 6-8, had a breakout junior year and he followed it up by becoming a star this season, with a team-high 14.5 points per game while leading the Blue Bison to a 10-7 league record this season while getting to the sectional quarterfinals.

“I have learned a lot through this long journey of ups and downs which have made me the man I am today. One thing I’ve learned throughout the process is that playing college basketball is all about the right fit and that is something that helped me make my decision. I would like to give a special thank you to my family, friends, Coach Chris Alesi and the New York Rens AAU program for helping me get to this point today. Their support has been unreal and none of this would have been possible for me without them,” Seymour said as part of a statement on Twitter.

As well as his strong defensive play, he can shoot from behind the arc, not seen much from someone of his size in the college game. He averaged three buckets from behind the arc per game this season. He should get some playing time early on in Loudonville. Seymour had 15 Division I offers, including South Florida, Pittsburgh, Rhode Island, St. Joseph’s and St. John’s, among others according to 247sports.com.

This is new head coach Jamion Christian’s second Class of 2018 commit, as Rochester’s Jalen Pickett committed to the Saints last week.
