Anderson’s 23 leads Adirondack to shutout win over Norfolk
GLENS FALLS – The Adirondack Thunder got a 23-save shutout from J.P. Anderson, his first with the Thunder, as they extended their point streak to eight games with a 3-0 victory over the Norfolk Admirals.
Adirondack opened the scoring 14:39 into the first period with a goal from the captain, Peter MacArthur, his 24th goal of the season. After he stole the puck from a Norfolk forward deep in the offensive zone, MacArthur carried the puck along the boards and circle the net before he wrapped the puck past Norfolk netminder Philipe Desrosiers for the unassisted goal. With the tally, MacArthur extended his point streak to three games with six points over that span.
Just over five minutes into the third period, the Thunder doubled their advantage as Cullen Bradshaw found the back of the net for the seventh time this season and extended his point streak to five games. After he entered the attacking zone, Austin Orszulak glided a pass to Alex Wall in the slot, who then sent a cross-ice pass to Bradshaw at the back post for the wide-open goal. Wall and Orszulak collected assists on the goal, Wall’s 35th helper of the season.
Later in the third period, at the 15:11 mark, forward Brian Ward scored his 25th goal of the season to give Adirondack a 3-0 lead. After he collected the puck from forward James Henry, Ward skated to the top of the left-hand faceoff circle before he threaded a wrist shot over the glove of the Norfolk netminder and into the back of the net. Henry and Culkin were awarded the assists on the play, Henry’s 31st and Culkin’s 11th helper of the season.
With the victory, Adirondack improves to 38-20-7-4 on the season, good for 87 points and a three-point lead in the North Division standings. The 38th victory of the season ties last season’s win total.
The Thunder are home again for the home regular season finale on Tuesday evening against Manchester.
