“We just never really got things going and never got on a roll,” said Hanrahan. “It’s a little disappointing obviously, but the did a nice job defensively too.”

Mayfield (5-2, 3-1WAC) used their zone defense to limit the Wildcats to just  7 points in the first quarter.

They’re  a good team; they’ve got good size, they’ve got guys that can shoot and get to the rim,” Hanrahan went on to say. “They’re a team that’s built for Sectionals, and I think they’ll do well.

With 2 minutes and 49 seconds remaining the Wildcats showed life when Nate Mannion brought his team within six (43-49), but costly fouls would erase his efforts just seconds later.

With the loss, Maple Hill will take on Hoosic Valley in the consolation game of their Holiday Hoopfest tournament on Monday at 1:30 p.m. While Mayfield will do battle with Ichabod-Crane in the Championship game at 3:00 p.m.
