Dak, Zeke and defense shine for Dallas in Week 4
Heading into Week 4 of the NFL season, Cowboys fans were still searching for an answer as to whether Dak Prescott was legit, and if the defense could get stops like they did in Week 3. The Cowboys were going up against the 1-2 49ers wh0 seem to be getting more attention for what’s happening on the sidelines, instead of what’s going down inside the white lines.
Watching the first quarter on Sunday afternoon, you would’ve thought the 49ers were gonna run away with the game, after taking an early 14-0, but back came the Cowboys. After the first quarter, the Cowboys outscored the 49ers 24-10.
It was when Dak threw the ball, that the Cowboys found success and quickly came storming back, completing a touchdown pass to Brice Butler to tie the game with just a few ticks left in the first half.
In the second half, it was all about their rookie back Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for 96 yards in the second half alone, and gave the Cowboys a lead for the first time with a 1-yard run. Elliott is up for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week Honors for Week 4 as well, after finishing with 138 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.
Unlike teams in the past, the Cowboys have shown multiple times this season that they can get stops when needed. Morris Claiborne picked off Blaine Gabbert late in the 4th quarter on a deep pass, and then the Cowboys got a stop on 4th down to put a halt in the 49ers potential game winning drive.
One thing is for sure, apart from the 1st quarter when the 49ers seemed unbeatable, Dak Prescott still hasn’t thrown an interception and is seeming legit, and Ezekiel Elliott is the NFL’s leading rusher and is turning out just like the Cowboys hoped.
The 49ers will have a short week and play on TNF in their color rush uniforms against the under-achieving Arizona Cardinals.
The Cowboys will face off against the 2-2 Bengals at 4:25 ET next week.
