‘Cats win second game in a row, beating Yankees 6-3

TROY, NY(518 Sports) — After Thursday’s walk-off win over the wild-card leading Staten Island Yankees, the Tri-City ValleyCats were ready to give their home crowd something to cheer about. An unexpected bonus, given that they were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention on Wednesday night.

Chuckie Robinson opened things up for the ‘Cats in the bottom of the first, delivering a two run blast to give Tri-City an early lead.

Wasting no time, the Yankees got right to work in the top of the second, as rightfielder Timmy Robinson scored off a Jimmy Seitz groundout to third.

In the bottom of the third again it was Chuckie Robinson, who plated Carmen Benedetti on a triple to left.

The Yankees came out and scored two quick runs to tie up the game in the top of the fourth, but the ‘Cats weren’t going to give up their sole possession of the lead that easily.  In the bottom of the inning Taylor Jones delivered a solo shot to retake the lead (4-3) entering the fifth.

After leading off with a triple, Rodrigo Ayarza scored off a wild pitch with Carmen Benedetti at the plate to make it a two run game.  Later that inning,  Chuckie Robinson scored off another Staten Island wild pitch with Taylor Jones at the plate, bringing the ‘Cats lead to three (6-3).

From there the score wouldn’t budge, with the ‘Cats grabbing their second win in a row while continuing to play spoiler. “Tonight was a good night,” said manager Lamarr Rogers.  “New things are still to come and we’re going to finish off these games the best we can,” said right fielder Carmen Benedetti.

The ‘Cats will play their final home game tomorrow, looking to complete the sweep of the Yankees. First pitch is set for 7:05pm at “The Joe”.
