Severe weather cancels six races at Saratoga
Severe weather has cancelled the final six races of Saturday’s 11 race card at Saratoga Race Course.
The fourth race of the afternoon had already been delayed due to severe rain and thunderstorms in the area. The eventually-postponed races six, eight and 11 were moved off the turf, before the rest of the day’s card, including the Grade 1 Fourstardave and the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes, were cancelled.
Before the cancellation, 27 horses from races 6-11 were scratched for varying reasons, but most of them due to the weather. In addition, all of these races as well as races four and five were set to be delayed, even though four and five were run.
This is the first time since 2011 that a set of races at Saratoga were cancelled due to weather. The whole card of August 28 of 2011 was cancelled when Hurricane Irene ripped through the Capital Region.
The G1 Fourstardave has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 20, and will share the card with the G1 Alabama Stakes, creating a blockbuster day at Saratoga Race Course.
In addition, the G2 Adirondack Stakes has been rescheduled for Friday, August 19.
