Jimmy Patsos under investigation by Siena

LOUDONVILLE — Jimmy Patsos, the men’s basketball coach at Siena College, is reportably under investigation by the college following allegations that he was verbally abusive to a student-manager who has a mental disorder.

The report, originally obtained by the Times Union, stated that Patsos referred to the team manager as “the next Unabomber” and “insane.”

Siena spokeswoman Lisa Witkowski told the Times Union in a statement, “College athletic departments perform end-of-season reviews on their sports programs. Information surfaced during Siena’s review of the men’s basketball program that requires deeper examination.”

According to the report, the student-manager filed a complaint with the college in February. The student was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Patsos was aware of that when he made the comments.

Members of the men’s basketball team and the college’s Title IX coordinator have been interviewed by an outside attorney in recent weeks.

Patsos, who is coming off his fifth season as the head coach at Siena, has posted a 77-92 record with the Saints. They are coming off their worst season during his tenure, going 8-24 and a conference record of 4-14. Team co-captain Nico Clareth also left the team in January with an intent to transfer.

Patsos is under contract through the 2020-21 season.
