CBA wins easily over Bethlehem in Class AA quarterfinal
TROY — The Class AA Quarterfinal between Christian Brothers Academy and the Bethlehem Eagles was basically over right from tip-off. CBA came out determined and ready to play en-route to a 68-48 blowout victory.
After the first quarter, CBA held a 13 point lead at 23-10 and they never looked back. CBA led all 24 minutes of the game and the closest Bethlehem got was within nine points. Bethlehem really had no answer for what CBA wanted to do. The Eagles couldn’t contain 6’3″ big man Andrew Signor in the post as he recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and shot 8 of 14 from the floor. Senior guard Jordan King was unstoppable and Steph Curry-esque as he was the game’s leading scorer with an amazing 27 points and shot an incredible 7 for 15 from beyond the three-point line. King also added a steal and three assists to his stat sheet.
King said his shot was feeling good and his teammates got him the ball.
“I was feeling it in the beginning of the game early. My teammates were finding me. Going into this game I really didn’t have to shoot I just decided to shoot and they started going in,” said King.
King thinks his team is gelling very well at this point in the season.
“We’re working very good, we’re preparing for every game like it’s our last because one lose can get us out. So we’re working very hard as a team,” said King.
Bethlehem had three scorers in double figures but it just was not enough to keep pace with CBA’s high-powered offense. Sophomore Will Davis scored 10 points, Junior Michael Ortale scored 14 points, including 4 three pointers, and Junior Jacob LaClair scored 13 points.
CBA held Bethlehem to just 26% shooting for the whole game and caused the Eagles to turn the ball over nine times. CBA did a great job handling the ball and did not commit a single turnover.
CBA Head Coach Dave Doemel thought his team did a solid job overall on the defensive side of the ball.
“Defensively I thought we did a nice job. For the most part we boxed out well and we got contributions from guys coming off the bench,” Doemel said.
CBA will be taking on Shen Tuesday at 6:30 pm at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. Shen erased an eight-point deficit to Shaker with five minutes left and came back to win 51-48 Saturday night in the other Class AA quarterfinal.
