RECAP: Maple Hill lacrosse still winless vs. Cambridge

SCHODACK — In its 5-year existence, the Maple Hill High School lacrosse team has never beaten Wasaren League foe Cambridge, and Monday’s 15-4 loss was no exception.

The Indians got on the board early, scoring two quick goals in the first quarter, but Maple Hill sophomore midfielder Seth Roberts quickly cut the Indians’ lead back to one when he scored his eighth goal of the season.

Cambridge pulled away in the second quarter, adding five goals and controlled the contest at the half.

In the third quarter, the sun, which was hiding in the clouds, finally came out and it brought the Maple Hill offense with it. Oklahoma bound, non-lacrosse, senior Ben Sherwood made it a 7-2 contest just one minute and 30 seconds into the quarter and not two minutes later freshman Tai Ryan added another. But the Indians brought it back to a five-goal game in the closing minutes of the quarter.

Down 8-3, Maple Hill coach Kyle Randall attempted to rally his squad with talk of an invasion and war, against Cambridge. But the Wildcats lost the war before the final quarter even started when sophomore Chase Cioffi was penalized three minutes after he was found using an illegal stick.

Cambridge tacked on seven more, but Ryan managed to put one more past Cambridge keeper Christian Hunt, preventing a fourth-quarter shutout.

The Wildcats (6-5, 4-4 league) host Lansingburgh on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
