Vecchione earns third ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors
ALBANY, N.Y.—Union College men’s hockey senior captain Mike Vecchione has been selected as the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Vecchione had a record-setting weekend, becoming Union’s all-time leading scorer in its Division I era with three points (2G-1A) against No. 16 Cornell, including his Division I-leading fourth shorthanded goal of the season. He followed that up with a goal and an assist in a Saturday’s 3-1 victory against Colgate, netting his fifth game-winning goal at 12:39 of the third period. The Saugus, Mass. native registered his 97th career assist on Spencer Foo’s empty net goal, moving him atop the career assist list in the Dutchmen’s Division I era as well. His three goals over the weekend were tied for the most by an ECAC Hockey skater.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound center, who has compiled 64 career goals and 97 career assists for 161 career points, paces the nation in points (48), points per game (1.71), and multiple point games (16) and is tied for first in goals (22), game-winning goals (5) and shorthanded goals (4).
The sixth-ranked Dutchmen (19-7-1, 12-3-1 ECAC) are back on the road this weekend, taking on No. 4/5 Harvard and Dartmouth.
