BETHLEHEM — Two Section II high school basketball players received single-game suspensions for instigating a brawl during a regular season Colonial Council game on Friday.
The two players suspended, one from Averill Park High School and the other from Bethlehem High School, were ejected from the game.
“We are concerned and disappointed to see this kind of behavior unfold during a game,” Bethlehem superintendent of schools Jody Monroe said. “We hold all student-athletes to the highest standards of sportsmanship, good judgment, and personal responsibility.”
The brawl occurred in the third quarter of the game
“We continue to work with our athletics office and high school leaders to examine what happened on Friday night and are prepared to take additional follow-up action as needed,” Monroe said.
Bethlehem went on to win the game 64-51. The two teams are not scheduled to play each other again this season and would not meet in the playoffs.
