Testaverde named starting quartback for week 1

Son of former NFL quarterback will make his first collegiate start against Pittsburgh

ALBANY — The University at Albany football team has named their starting quarterback for their first game of the season.

Out of the three viable choices, Vincent Testaverde, son of former NFL quarterback Vinny Testaverde, will make his first collegiate start on September 1.

Announced with a gender reveal style via Twitter, purple smoke was released into the air telling the public Testaverde will be the team’s starter.

“We feel really good about our quarterback depth this year but at the end of the day it’s about managing the game,” head coach Greg Gattuso said via Twitter. “Vinny kind of stood out as camp went on but it was very close, Will Brunson is a guy we trust…we feel good about both of these young men.”

He [Testaverde] beats out last season’s starter Will Brunson and backup Nyc Burns for the job as UAlbany will begin their season on the road against ACC foe Pittsburgh.
