Saints Steal Pink Zone Victory

LOUDONVILLE, NY – With four steals in the final minute of play the Siena Women’s Basketball team took a 67-62 win over Manhattan for their Pink Zone game. Denisha Petty-Evans had the final steal and layup with 16 seconds left that helped the Saints keep the lead.

Junior guard Kollyns Scarbrough had three of the four steals in the final minute of play and also led the Saints (10-14, 9-6 MAAC) with 17 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Senior forward Meghan Donohue recorded 14 points for Siena while Jackie Benitez added 11.

Kayla Grimme notched her 17th career and sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards for Manhattan (7-17, 3-14). Grimme, who leads the MAAC in blocks, tied her season-high with six. Nyasha Irizarry tallied a team-high 15 points, while Mikki Guiton chipped in 14.

In a contest that held 16 lead changes and eight ties, the Saints were able to pull out a 67-62 win over the Jaspers and snap a two-game losing streak.

The Saints led for the entire first quarter but Manhattan hit a three as the clock counted down and Siena took a slim 19-18 lead. The see-saw battle between the conference foes continued into the second quarter as neither team would lead by more than three points. Just like in the first quarter, the Jaspers chipped in a basket in the final seconds, but this time they would take a 39-38 lead going into halftime.

Manhattan started the third quarter on a 8-3 run and took their largest lead of the contest 47-41 with just under five minutes left in the stanza. The Saints would chip away at the lead and trail just 49-47 heading into the final 10 minutes. Siena went on a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter and regained the lead 54-49. The Jaspers were able to bring it within two, 64-62, with just 90 seconds left in the contest. Then three steals from Scarbrough and one from Petty-Evans pushed the Saints past Manhattan 67-62.

Siena outscored the Jaspers in the paint 34-22, off turnovers 16-7 and off of second chance points 11-4. Scarbrough grabbed eight boards, while Donohue recorded seven. The Saints 12 steals is the 10th time this season to swipe the ball 10-plus times.

The Saints host Quinnipiac on Sunday, Feb. 12 for Senior Day. Siena will recognize seniors Ariana Long, Denisha Petty-Evans and Meghan Donohue prior to the 2 p.m. tipoff.
