RPI’s Sauve named Swimmer of the Week
TROY, N.Y. – Following three individual event victories and three top two finishes in relays at the Liberty League Championship Meet, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jessica Sauve has been named the Women’s Swimmer of the Week by the conference.
A junior Sauve (Walpole, MA / Walpole) was named the meet’s top swimmer after winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.54, the 400-yard individual medley in an NCAA B-cut time of 4:34.32 and the 200-yard freestyle in a Liberty League meet record time of 1:53.79). She also placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.68).
In relays, the chemical engineering major anchored the 400 free relay team that won with a meet record time of 3:32.00. She also swam on the second place 200 free relay (1:37.36) and 200 medley relay (1:48.99) teams, helping the Engineers to a runner-up finish. RPI compiled 1544.5 points, which trailed only the University of Rochester’s 1733.5.
This is the second weekly award for Sauve, who was named Swimmer of the Week in late October when she won three individual events in a 198-102 win over RIT She captured the 200 free (1:58.07), the 50 free (25.33) and the 500 free (5:22.65) and was part of the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:46.22).
RPI, which is 4-1 in dual meets, is idle until January 13 when it travels to Schenectady to compete with Union College in a dual meet (6pm).
