Kivinis’ BIG day pushes RPI past MIT
CAMBRIDGE, MA — RPI’s dominant rushing attack was on display again today as they ran all over MIT beating them 31-10 and improving to 2-1 on the year. Mike Tivinis was the feature back and he took 19 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. The game started out as a low scoring affair as MIT jumped out to a 3-0 lead early before RPI answered with a 3 of their own. The turning point came early in the second quarter when Alex Greenidge intercepted Udgam Goyal and brought it back to the end zone for the pick 6. The only score in the third quarter was a Mike Tivinis 7 yard scamper to give Rensselaer a 17-3 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter featured the most scoring as RPI put up 14 on Maliek Kelly and Johnny Ramsdell touchdown runs. RPI’ defense also forced 5 turnovers while intercepting MIT quarterback Udgam Goyal 4 times on the day and forcing 1 fumble. Goyal finished the day 18-32 with 200 yards and no touchdowns as the Engineers fell to 0-3 on the season. RPI heads back home for a matchup next week against an undefeated (3-0) St. Lawrence team that looks to be on a run of their. A matchup that could be a critical test for the Engineers.
