Exclusive Interview with Ballston Spa Quarterback Christian Leva

The Ballston Spa Scotties football team is entering their first season under head coach Raymond Toohey, and they have their highest expectations in several years, after finishing 4-5 last season. I was able to catch up with Scotties senior quarterback Christian Leva, and ask him a few questions about the upcoming season.

So Christian, you weren’t able to play quarterback last season because of past concussions, but you’re back to playing the position this year. How does it feel to be back?

CL: “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t ecstatic to have the opportunity to play quarterback again, especially at the varsity level. I’ve been putting in a lot of work in the offseason to put my team in the best place to have a successful season.”

This is new head coach Raymond Toohey’s first season with the team. How has it been with him so far?

CL: “We haven’t missed a step. I was skeptical how things would be after Coach Murello resigned, then we had a long wait not knowing who the coach would be. I was excited about Coach Toohey being named head coach. Ballston Spa football is starting fresh and I love the direction we’re heading.”

Your team has their highest expectations in a while this year, how do you think the team will fare?

CL: “I won’t predict any certain number of wins but I can say for sure that we all feel lose and the vibe around practice has been upbeat. We’re all excited about this year and are confident we can put up points and win some games this year.”

Your season opener is on the road against CBA on September 3rd, a rematch of last year’s 14-12 victory. In this last year, Ballston Spa and CBA have seemed to develop a bit of a rivalry. Are you guys excited to play them again?

CL: “Every game is important with the short 7-game schedule, however I think the CBA game will be one of the bigger games of the year. I wouldn’t say there’s necessarily bad blood but both teams are highly competitive. I know some of the kids on CBA and they’re competitors like myself and many of my teammates. They will do everything they can to not lose 2 straight to us, and we are going to leave it all on the field to make sure it’s 2 years in a row beating CBA.”
