Dutchmen blank Stallions in Saugerties
Saugerties — On nine hits, the Albany Dutchmen shut out the Saugerties Stallions 8-0 Friday night at Cantine Veterans Memorial Complex.
In the top of the second inning, Nick Estrella (Azusa Pacific) led off the inning by drawing a walk. Chase Allen (Limestone) then hit a two run home run to give the Dutchmen an early 2-0 lead.
The Dutchmen added a few runs in the top of the fourth inning. Justin Childers (Ohio Dominican) and Nick Estrella led off the inning by both hitting singles. Adam Elliot (Louisville) was able to score Childers to boost the Dutchmen’s lead to 3-0. Nick Estrella scored after Colin Kaucher (Ohio Dominican) was walked and the ball ended up at the backstop behind home plate. That run gave the Dutchmen a 4-0 lead.
On seven innings of work, Dutchmen pitcher Jack Grabek (Bucknell) allowed just two hits, while striking out seven.
The Dutchmen scored four more runs in the top of the eighth inning to make it an 8-0 contest.
Grabek was credited with the win for Albany and Stallion’s Joe Nellis (St.John’s) picked up the Saugerties loss on the mound.
It’s a quick turnaround for Albany, as they’ll host a doubleheader on Saturday against the Adirondack Trail Blazers. Game one is set to start at 3:00 p.m. with the first pitch of the second game coming shortly after the fat lady sings her game one song.
