Ballston Spa Girls’ Soccer Bests Schenectady on Senior Night
Upstate, NY– Ballston Spa girls’ soccer played host to Schenectady on Tuesday night, looking to come up with a big win on senior night. The Scotties dominated the Patriots 11-0 last season, and they were expected to dominate again this meeting. And they met expectations. Ballston outshot Schenectady 25-0 in the contest, and put 4 of those shots in the back of the net.
Ballston struck first with just over a minute and a half remaining in the first half off a beautiful strike from about 25 yards out from senior defender Julia Blake, her second goal of the year. They would take that 1-0 lead into the half. The Scotties led in shots 15-0 at that point.
The second half was more of the same. Alexa Masherjian put one home a few minutes into the half to make it 2-0, and Delaney Andersen followed that with another goal about 10 minutes later, making it 3-0. Sarah Sierzenga scored the fourth and final goal for Ballston.
The Scotties were led by their senior captains on their senior night, which comes as no surprise. Alexa Mahserjian generated numerous chances for Ballston, pushing the ball forward constantly. Julia Blake covered tons of ground defensively, and eliminated the few chances that the Patriots had to get the ball toward the net.
“I wanted to score so bad on my senior night in front of all my friends and family and when I shot it, I knew it was going in,” Blake said after the game.
The Scotties have a lot of positives to take away from the game, and will look to take this momentum with them the rest of the season and into sectionals.
