Engineers Fall to 1-1 in Loss to Saxons

TROY, NY — Alfred University’s Tyler Johnson was too much for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers to handle Saturday afternoon at ECAV stadium.  The senior quarterback rushed for 120 yards and threw for 198 more, helping the Saxons to a 33-7 win over RPI.

The Alfred offense ruled the first half, scoring 27 points, while their defense outsmarted the Engineers, holding them at zero.

This all changed in the third quarter. RPI came out of the locker room like an entirely new team, going on a 17-0 tear. All good things must come to an end, and it certainly did for Rensselaer. The Saxons answered with their own run of six to win the game, 33 to 17.

Next week, the Engineers will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts for a Saturday afternoon date, kicking off at noon.  Alfred’s next game will also come on Saturday at noon, but on the road at Buffalo State College.
