BHBS cruises past Taconic for 6th straight
The BHBS hockey team hosted Taconic (MA) in a non-league contest on Friday night, and there wasn’t exactly a lack of scoring.
Dom Monterosso had his first career hat trick, Miles Grabb and Duncan Ehmann both scored their first career goals, and Vince Mizcek and Tim Stocker each recorded their first career points as BHBS cruised past Taconic 12-5 in a non-league game. The win was the Spartan’s 6th straight, and it improved them to 12-4-1 on the season.
The scoring began when defenseman Sam Swingruber slipped through the D and buried one past Taconic goaltender Aaron Noughtaling to make it 1-0 five minutes into the 1st. It wouldn’t stop there. Tino Benamati got one off great feeds by Swingruber and Buffoline, and it became 2-0 two and a half minutes later. Dom Monterosso buried a wrister a minute later to make it 3-0. Monterosso and Buffoline each scored again and Brandon Peaslee scored for Taconic, and it was 5-1 after just the first period.
The goals just kept flowing in the second period. Tino Benamati, Nick Koszelak, and Miles Grabb all scored in the first 10 minutes of the period, and Benamati completed his hat trick with 34 seconds left in the period. BHBS led 9-3 after the second.
Dom Monterosso completed the hat trick two minutes into the third, when he slipped home a loose puck over the goal line. Freshman defenseman Duncan Ehmann scored his first career goal when he flipped a shot on net from the point that was misplayed by Noughtaling. Geordan Buffoline scored his second goal in the period as well, and the final was 12-5.
Tino Benamati recorded a hat trick for the second game in a row, becoming the first player in BHBS history to do so. He now has 18 goals on the season, 3rd in Section 2. Geordan Buffoline recorded 5 points (2 G, 3 A) and moves back into first place in the section in points, with 45. He is 4 points ahead of the second-best scorer (Jared Thomas of Tri-Falls has 41 points). The Section 2 modern scoring record is 59 points. Sophomore goalie Trevin Tidmarsh made 27 saves. BHBS is now 12-4-1 on the season, and will host Bethelehem in a huge game on Saturday.
