Cuomo is “flattered” by the 2020 rumors “even if not true”

Albany, NY — With Democrats and progressives alike butt hurt over their realization that Donald Trump will become the leader of the free (for now) world, many can’t help but look at 2020 as a new beginning.

Surprisingly, the same man that caused pain and suffering for students across the state with his rush of the Common Core is being labeled as a “front runner” to possibly go against the Donald in 4 years. But apparently, the White House isn’t that appealing to the two-term governor, although he is “flattered” by the idea.

“I hope that I am blessed by the people of this state with a chance to continue to serve,” Cuomo said on AM 970’s “The Cats Roundtable.” “We have a lot of good things going on right now, and I want to make sure that we finish what we started. So, that’s the only plan that I have now, but the rumor is flattering, even if not true.”

But Cuomo may be secretly positioning himself as the “progressive candidate” in 2020, as pointed out by  of the Times Union:

The governor has kept up rhetorical challenges to the president-elect of late, using his State of the State rollout tour last week to position himselfas a progressive beacon at a time when Republicans control the White House and Congress.

If he does indeed seek re-election as governor, one of the names being tossed around as his possible opponent is Long Island Republican John Flanagan, the state Senate Majority Leader.
