Tri-City ValleyCats

ValleyCats Cruise To Victory On Opening Night

It was just one of those nights. Things were clicking on all cylinders for the ValleyCats in their 13-1 victory over the Connecticut Tigers on Friday night. Celebrating their 15th season, there was plenty of reason for celebration on the offensive side of things for Tri-City. 8 of 9 ValleyCats hitters recorded a hit. 14 in total. Combine that with 6 solid innings of work from Akeem Bostick, and the win was never in doubt.

Stephen Wrenn got things started off quickly. He lifted a leadoff homer to left in the 1st. Not a bad way to start your pro career. Things went quiet for a few innings before the Cats’ erupted for 5 runs in the 5th. 2 of them coming from a Daz Cameron double. Daz is the son of former MLB player Mike, so you could say greatness runs in the family. If those 5 weren’t enough, Tri-City added 5 more in the 7th. Taylor Jones started the rally smashing a grand slam over the centerfield wall. Sebastian Kessay came in and pitched the final three innings to get the save. 7 of his 9 outs coming via strikeout.

The sold out crowd got their money’s worth tonight. And the Cats’ are back at home for the second half of the two game set against the Tigers tomorrow night. After that, a trip down to Coney Island to face the Cyclones, followed by a three game home set against Vermont.

The game needed to be officiated under one umpire for a short amount of time after the home plate umpire took a ball off the mask. A scary moment that eventually led to a 20 minute delay. We hope for a speedy recovery.
