Wildcats down Indians

Schodack, NY — After dropping their first two games of the year the Maple Hill Girls’ soccer team was ready to jump-start their season, but first they would have to get passed the Indians of Coxsackie-Athens, a task the lady Wildcats would complete quite easily.

MH opened things up in the second half of the first half when Taylor Gerrain put the ball in the net.

Minutes later Mariella Hirschoff joined in on the fun, giving Maple Hill a two-nil lead.  Then, Cameron Lankenau also got a ball passed the Coxsackie keeper to make it a three-nil game at the half.

At this point, your humble correspondent was drenched in sweat and searching for some shade, with the temp around 88 and not a cloud in the sky.

Minutes into the second half, Taylor Gerrain scored for the second time, but the Wildcats weren’t done there.  Kendall Jenkins cemented the game for MH when she scored making it a five-nil affair.

As time ran down, Maple Hill continued to dominate with Arianna Papas in the goal.  The Junior keeper finished the game with 13 saves in Maple Hill’s first win of the year.

Maple Hill’s next game will come on Tuesday(9/13) when the Wildcats travel to take on the Cairo-Durham Mustangs, at 4:15pm.

ONE MORE THING: I couldn’t find a way to work this in, but shout out to Maple Hill coach Sheila Golden, who took a bee sting like a champ on the sidelines, simply saying “I just got stung by a bee” and continuing to coach.
