Why It Could Be a Long Season For the Broncos

The Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round of this year’s draft. They traded up from the number 31 pick to the number 26 pick to get Lynch. The Broncos hope that this pick will help them recover from Peyton Manning’s retirement and help cause more competition at the quarterback spot. Lynch, drafted out of Memphis, passed for over eight thousand career yards, 59 career touchdowns and only 23 career interceptions. Lynch was highly touted going into this year’s draft which brings up an important question, why haven’t the Broncos signed the talented, young quarterback? Lynch is the only rookie out of the eight that the Broncos haven’t signed to a contract. This could prove problematic for the Broncos because with Manning’s retirement they are left with few options at the quarterback spot. They signed Mark Sanchez to a deal in the off-season, but this hasn’t seemed to get fans very excited considering Sanchez’s most notable achievement (or unachievement) has been his butt fumble back when he was with the New York Jets.
The Broncos are hopeful to sign Lynch before the team gets too far into their OTA’s. Once they do it will open up a whole other can of worms. Fans and the Media will always be constantly talking about who they think will be put in the quarterback spot. Whether they think it will be Lynch or should it be Sanchez? Lynch does have a lot of upside and would bring a lot of people to the games but Sanchez would seem like the best, most safe bet, for the Broncos. The Broncos open up the season with a rematch of the Super Bowl last year, playing against the Carolina Panthers. To start Lynch in that game would look insane, the Panthers have one of the best defenses in the NFL and it is most likely will be one of the most watched opening games in NFL history. Also considering the fact that the Broncos defense isn’t going to be as good as they were last year due to the fact that they lost four players from the top defense. Free agency has taken the middle linebacker Nate Irving, two defensive tackles in Terrence Knighton and Mitch Unrein, and a safety in Rahim Moore. With all these factors it would seem like the best option at the start of the season would be Mark Sanchez. So if you are a Broncos fan get ready for the butt fumble king himself and get used to all the talk about the quarterback controversy. It could end up being a long season for the Broncos.
