We won’t be at Saratoga once this summer

So it’s opening day at SaratogaRace Track, but sadly, you won’t see a 518 Sports reporter there once this summer.

I could air out our dirty laundry with NYRA all day, but I’ll keep it brief. We aren’t treated like full working members of the press. They say it has to do with “insurance purposes,” but I digress.

While we reached a tentative agreement in 2016 – one that limited where we could go – it was decided that we would focus our reporting efforts on more productive beats.

Is it sad? Yes. Do I wish we could be there for every race? Absolutly, but at the end of the day, we need to do what’s best for our readers. There are plenty of outlets covering the track, but very few running the Glens Falls Dragons beat — something we were able to add by saying farewell to Saratoga.

Enjoy this year’s season and try not to have too many milkshakes at the legendary Shake Shack.
