ValleyCats take game 1 of doubleheader with spinners

TROY –– After getting rained out on Sunday the Tri-City ValleyCats and the Lowell Spinners were eager to battle each other for the first time at “The Joe” this season.  The last time these 2 teams met, the ValleyCats took 2 of 3 at Lowell in late June.

Based on weather conditions just a few hours before the first game was scheduled to start, one might have imagined that the 2 teams would have to wait yet another day.  Thankfully, conditions improved and mother nature let the boys do battle.

The Spinners drew first blood, scoring 1 run off an Isaias Lucena RBI single to right.  Later in the bottom half of that same inning, the ValleyCats would tie up the game off a Brauly Mejia double.

The score wouldn’t change after that and by the time we hit the end of regulation (7 innings) it was still tied.  Only one inning would be needed however, as in the bottom of the 8th Chuckie Robinson delivered the game winning RBI in walk off fashion.

With a 2-1 victory, the ValleyCats now look to take the second game of this doubleheader at approximately 7:30
