ValleyCats split doubleheader with Vermont Lake Monsters

BURLINGTON – The Tri-City ValleyCats split a doubleheader with the Vermont Lake Monsters Sunday evening, winning game one 3-0, but falling in game two 2-0.

In game one, it would take quite a while for anyone to get on the scoreboard, but finally in the 6th Ronnie Dawson doubled to bring Chuckie Robinsonn home, putting Tri-City up 1-0. Later that same inning, Bryan De La Cruz’s delivered a sacrifice fly to score Taylor Jones, giving the ValleyCats a valuable two run lead with the game winding down.

In the 7th with Chuckie Robinson at the plate, Heath Bowers(Vermont) tried to pick off Miguelangel Sierra at first base, but overthrew the bag, allowing Marcos Almonte to score from third. Although Almonte delivered the third run of the day for Tri-City, it would unfortunately be their last of the day.

In game two, once again neither team was able to put anything on the scoreboard for the majority of the ball game, in fact it probably would’ve went to extras if not for the baseball baron’s curse.  With two outs and a 1-2 count in the bottom of the seventh, Steven Pallares lifted a walk-off single to right field, allowing Luke Persico to score the game winning run for Vermont.

The ValleyCats return home to “The Joe” on Wednesday to start a three game set with the Aberdeen IronBirds.
