UAlbany’s Nichols named Conference player of the week

Albany, NY — Leading UAlbany to three league victories with nearly 24 points per game, UAlbany guard David Nichols has been selected as the America East Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

This is Nichols’s second conference weekly honor of the season and fourth for the team, with Joe Cremo having the other two.  UAlbany is the only America East men’s basketball team with multiple players with multiple weekly honors this season.

The sophomore guard led UAlbany in scoring in three conference victories last week over UMBC, Binghamton and Maine.  The team won each game by at least 18 points.

In total last week, Nichols averaged 23.7 points per game, shooting 65.9% from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.  He earned 18 points and four steals at UMBC, 25 points and five assists vs. Binghamton and 28 points vs. Maine.

Nichols and the Great Danes will prepare to battle Vermont at the SEFCU Arena on Wednesday, January 25th at 7 p.m.
