UAlbany’s Hooley is heading home with a pro contract

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Former UAlbany all-conference guard Peter Hooley signed a professional contract with Melbourne United in his native country of Australia for the 2017-18 season.

Melbourne United plays for the National Basketball League, the top league in Australia.  The team is gearing up for a trip to the United States, where it will play the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.  The date and time will be announced later in a joint announcement from Sydney.

“I haven’t spent more than three months in Australia [since finishing high school] so to be able to come back and play the sport that I love, it’s really exciting,” said Hooley in the team’s press release.

Hooley helped the Great Danes win three America East Tournament titles from 2011-16, finishing with 1,519 career points to rank seventh in UAlbany history.  He is famous for hitting the game-winning three in the closing seconds of the 2015 America East title game over Stony Brook.

Hooley comes to Melbourne United after playing for the Sydney Kings for the Atlas Challenge in China, being named the tournament’s MVP.  He also played in the United Kingdom.
