Tuning up a W, the beats behind Maple Hill Boys soccer

Castleton, NY — During tomorrow’s 20-minute bus ride from Schodack to Colonie, there will be one song playing as the undefeated Maple Hill Boys Varsity Soccer team gets hyped for their regional final against Potsdam.

“Tunak, Tunak Tun” a Bhangara song from Daler Mehndi, has become the team’s unofficial official hype song.

“Catchy rhythm, instruments and the fact that it’s silly and all in Hindi gets us hyped,” Senior defenseman Noah Roberts said. “We have no idea[what it’s saying] and that’s what makes it fun.”

Roberts says he came across the song on social media and one day on their way back from an away game he shared it to his squad, the song has stuck ever since.

“They all thought it was weird, but because of that and its catchy beat we all love it.” Roberts went on to say. ” We now play it on the bus before and after every game.”

The Wildcats(20-0-1) will now play for a bid into the state semifinals tomorrow at Colonie High School.

“It’s crazy to believe that last year I sat the bench, and this year I’m a starting left back for Maple Hill going into the Regional final,” Roberts added. “This game is something we have only dreamed of as a team from the beginning of the year, and together through our hard work and teamwork, we made it.”

The match is set to start at high noon.
