Thunder bring back defenseman Mathieu Brodeur for third season

GLENS FALLS– The Adirondack Thunder announced Thursday that they have signed D Mathieu Brodeur to a contract for his third season with the team.

Brodeur played in 15 games with the Thunder during the 2016-2017 season and collected 19 points on four goals and 15 assists before he was called up to the AHL-level Syracuse Crunch in November. He collected another 13 points on on three goals in 56 games with Syracuse, and tacked on four points during the AHL playoffs, highlighted by scoring a goal in Game 5 of the Calder Cup finals against the Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids won the series in six games).

Brodeur has played in 85 games with the Thunder across three seasons and has a combined 49 points on 13 goals and 36 assists. 30 of those points came during the 2015-2016 season, where he led his team among defenseman. He has appeared in 440 games during his career including over 300 in the AHL including a stint with the Albany Devils, who left for Binghamton in April. He has never played in the NHL after being selected in the third round (76th overall) by the Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes in 2008.

The Thunder open up the 2017-2018 season at home on Saturday, October 14, as they face the Brampton Beast.
