The Maple Hill-Greenville Rivalry Continues to be Crazy

The best up and coming rivalry in the Patroon conference only got crazier this week as both the boys and girls basketball teams for Maple Hill and Greenville faced off in the opening week of league play.

It all started on Tuesday night out in Greenville when the Spartans jumped out to a 15 point lead early on the boys varsity team of Maple Hill. The Spartans maintained that lead up until the start of the fourth quarter when the Wildcats decided to pick up the pressure defensively.  This defensive intensity led to quick threes and easy buckets in transition for the Wildcats as they overcame the Greenville lead to knock them off 59-45. Tyler Hall was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 20 points while Aidan Carney tallied up 15 rebounds in the win for the Wildcats.

In the second leg of this matchup between the girls teams at Maple Hill on Thursday night, it was all Greenville. Maple Hill jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but managed to only score 4 more points in the first half. From here, the Lady Spartans sparked a 28-4 run to close out the first half and they never looked back from that point on. Although Maple Hill outscored the Spartans 28-26 in the second half, it wasn’t nearly enough to stop this Spartans team from rolling. Ava Fitzmaurice drained a game high 7 three pointers, with one coming as time expired in the first half, and Genevieve Palmer added a couple to her stat sheet as well.

With the first clash between these schools being two intense and physical games, look for the upcoming games to be nothing but the same.
