Stonehill spoils Golden Knights win streak

NORTH EASTON, MA — Host Stonehill shot a blistering 60.0 percent (36-for-60) from the floor, including 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the arc, to defeat The College of Saint Rose 97-71 in Northeast-10 Conference action today. In the process, the Golden Knights (18-5/10-4 NE10) had their six-game win streak snapped.

Senior guard Chris Dorgler (Floral Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and junior forward Julian Lipinski (Melbourne, Australia/Whitefriars) led Saint Rose with 17 and 16 points respectively. Junior forward Jack Jones (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) added 12 throughout 19 minutes of reserve duty.

Saint Rose fell behind by 13 in the opening seven minutes before taking off on a 14-2 jaunt that reduced its deficit to a bucket after Jones drained a 3-pointer and Lipinski made the second of two free throws.

However, the Skyhawks outscored the Golden Knights 20-7 the rest of the way to go in the locker room up 14, 48-34, at intermission. Saint Rose got to within 10 in the opening three minutes of the second period, but Stonehill stayed hot by burying 62.1 percent (18-for-29) of its attempts throughout the second half to snap a two-game skid.

Senior forward Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, OH/Fredericktown) tossed in 20 points and passed around five assists to lead a quintet of double-figure point producers for the Skyhawks. Junior guard KJ Lee (Huntington Station, NY/Long Island Lutheran) finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists as well.

Looking ahead, both squads have road dates Wednesday. Saint Rose travels to Syracuse to take on Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Stonehill heads to Waltham, MA to face Bentley at 7:30 pm.
