Siena’s Wright to miss St. Peter’s game in wake of Tuesday’s fight

Albany, NY — Siena senior guard Lavon Long scored a career-best 29 points, pushing his team to their fourth straight win, downing Rider 78 to 68. But it’s the fight that broke out at the tail end of the game which will forever be etched in the history of Siena basketball.

Although that lead doesn’t fit this story, Long didn’t get nearly enough credit for his performance last night.

With two minutes remaining, all hell broke lose, and Siena’s Marquis Wright along with Rider’s Anthony Durham were granted early showers from the officials.

Today the Metro Atlantic Athletic’s Association (MAAC) announced that both players would also receive one-game suspensions for their actions.

The MAAC also reprimanded Siena coach Jimmy Patsos and his Rider counterpart Kevin Baggett. Both coaches along with Wright and Durham will also be required to sign the “MAAC Sportsmanship Statement.”

Wright will serve his suspension tomorrow when the Saints travel to take on Saint Peter’s at 8:00 p.m EDT.

“The MAAC members have a process for these situations, and we respect that process and this outcome,” said Siena Athletics Director John D’Argenio. “It’s a learning opportunity for all of us.”
