Siena’s Long hits quadruple digits in loss to UNC Asheville

Asheville, NC — The Siena College Men’s Basketball team shot 54.5% from the field, but defending Big South Champion UNC Asheville connected at an even better 57.6% clip in the Bulldogs 92-80 win over the Saints. Despite the loss, it wasn’t all bad news for Siena as Senior guard/forward Lavon Long became the second member of the team to surpass 1,000 career points this season, joining Marquis Wright in the College’s record books.

In his quest of becoming the 43rd Saint to score 1,000 points, Long posted 13 total points, four boards, and five assists. The Baltimore, Maryland native joined Javion Ogunyemi, Marquis Wright, and Khalil Richard in scoring 10+ points.

When the horn sounded for the final time, the Saints had no answer for Ahmad Thomas. The junior added 16 points for the Bulldogs which shot 63% from the field in the second half and ended the game by making 10 of their final 14 shots.

Completing a season long three-game road trip, the Saints will return home to close out the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Wednesday. The Saints will play their fourth game in eight days when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 7 p.m. tip at the Times Union Center.
