Siena men’s lacrosse falls short at Hobart

Siena Men’s Lacrosse scored seven goals in the final quarter but came up just short as they fell 16-15 to Hobart in Victor, New York. Two Saints recorded hat-tricks in the contest.

Max Romm scored four goals for the Statesmen (1-1), while Frank Brown added three in the win. Brown added three assists to record a team-high six points for Hobart.

Chris Robertson put up the first goal for the Saints (0-2) en route to recording his first hat-trick of the early season. Brian Prunty notched his hat-trick with goals coming in the second and two in the fourth stanza. Sophomore Mike Reilly tallied a team-high five points off of two goals and three assists.

Hobart jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but with a man-up opportunity the Saints capitalized and Robertson recorded up his first goal of the season. At the end of the first quarter, the Statesmen led 6-1.

The Statesmen added to their lead and held a 12-3 advantage in the second quarter. Siena scored three unanswered goals, all within 26 seconds to trail just 12-6 at the half. Jordan Barlow continued the rally and opened the third quarter with a goal from Reilly.

In the final two minutes of play, the Saints were down 16-13 and behind goals from Tokar and Brian Prunty Siena drew themselves within one, 16-15 with just under a minute left to play. Both Robertson and Barlow got off good shots, but Hobart would take the victory 16-15.

Senior defensemen Joe Arcarese and junior defender Nick Matzelevich picked up five ground balls each for the Saints. The two caused three and two turnovers, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Aaron Lewis recorded 7 saves, six of which came in the first half.

Siena continues their road-trip as they travel down to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on ACC Power Virginia on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Faceoff is set for 6 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
