Saratoga beats Schuylerville on senior day, cancer fundraising event
On Saturday morning, Saratoga baseball finished up regular season play with their senior day with an event in conjunction with cancer research followed by a game against Schuylerville.
The event was held for Tracy Hogben, a Saratoga resident and supporter of Saratoga athletics who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last fall. Through T-Shirt sales, over $4500 was raised, all going towards brain tumor research at Albany Medical Center. Before the game, a ceremony was held for her, which concluded with her throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to her son, Gordon, who is on Saratoga’s varsity baseball team.
Additionally, Saturday morning was senior day for Saratoga, and the team’s seven seniors, Jack Cairns, Jake Fauler, Keegan Leffler, Kyle Powell, Matt Triola, Peter Herman Zach Vavasour were all honored pregame. Vavasour got the start on the mound for the Blue Streaks, and went three innings in their sectional tune-up.
As for the game, Saratoga took a 6-0 win over Schuylerville following a five-run sixth inning from Saratoga. The Blue Streaks were highlighted on offense by Peter Herman, who drove in two of Saratoga’s runs.
The Blue Streaks finish their season with a record of 15-5, matching their mark from the 2015 season in which the team reached the state championship game in Binghamton. They will now wait for their sectional seed, and will play their first sectional game either on Tuesday or Thursday, and nor opponent or site is known yet.
