Saints set for Rider

Hot off Saturday night’s 90-73 victory over Fairfield, the Siena College men’s basketball team is set for a Monday evening showdown at Rider.

The Saints (3-5, 1-0 in the MAAC) enter the game averaging 75.1 points per game, nearly six higher than Rider at 69.2, but the Broncs lead the Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference in rebounds per game averaging an even 42.

Not only will the team look to capture their second conference win, but also their first road win of the year, after going 0 for 5 in their previous outings outside the Times Union Center.

“It would mean a lot to us,” senior guard/forward Lavon Long told Mark Singelais of the Times Union. “We haven’t gotten one on the road yet. Once we do, we can break that losing streak and then it’ll be easier down the road.” He and the Saints will enter the battle off just two days of rest, while the Broncs should be fully refreshed after not playing since a home loss on Thursday.

“We’ve got a big one Monday at Rider,” added Siena coach Jimmy Patsos.”They have more rest. … We’ve got to go down there and find a way to grind one out. That’s a tough place to play.”

Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on Talk 1300 (WGDJ/AM).
