Saints fall short against Fordham

LOUDONVILLE– Fordham scored four runs in the third, and pulled away with a three-run sixth to top Siena Baseball 11-3 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Siena Field. Siena sophomores Matt Hamel and junior Dan Lowndes each tallied a pair of hits for the Saints.

Fordham (15-13) scored single runs in the first and second innings, before pushing across four runs in the third to take a 6-1 advantage. No. 9 hitter Billy Godrick delivered the decisive hit in the inning, with a two-run single.

Siena (11-15-1) got a pair of runs back to halve the deficit in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by freshman Alex Brickman and a run-scoring single from Lowndes, but Jake Baker responded with a two-run single during a three-run sixth for the Rams to pull away.

Kyle Martin pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to record the win for Fordham which featured seven pitchers for the mid-week affair. Meanwhile five different Siena hurlers saw action, with Ryan Bellomo, Shane Barringer, Nick Bruno and Zach Durfee each logging two innings apiece.

Siena continues its season long nine-game homestand Wednesday when the Saints welcome Army West Point to Siena Field for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
