RPI hockey gets home win against St. Lawrence

TROY – The RPI men’s hockey team downed St. Lawrence University 3-2 Saturday off the quick stick of junior forward Jacob Hayhurst.

Hayhurst scored the go-ahead tally from the left faceoff dot with the game tied, 2-2, at the 13:11 mark of the third period. The goal, Hayhurst’s first of the season, was assisted by freshmen blueliners Jake Johnson and Kyle Hallbauer.

St. Lawrence pulled sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Mannella with 35 seconds remaining in the contest, but the Engineers’ defense stood strong to the closing horn. RPI sophomore goalie Linden Marshall blocked all seven shots he faced in the final period.

RPI will next travel to play Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. Friday, before continuing a weekend road trip at Princeton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
