ROUNDUP: Day one of the Colonie girls basketball tournament

Even with few suburban council games over the holiday break for girls varsity basketball, there was plenty of excitement inside Colonie’s MUG gymnasium for the Girl’s Holiday Tournament.  There were two games that consisted of great defense and clutch shots.  The recap and scores:

Catholic Central defeated the Garnet Raiders of Colonie 46-43 on great shooting performances by both Ahniysha Jackson who had 14 points, and Emily Frodyma who finished with 11 points.  Colonie played tough and had good scoring by both Alivia Paeglow (14 points), and Aliyah Wright (12 points).

The other tournament game featured Shaker and Averill Park which ended in a 64-52 Shaker victory.  Shyla Sanford led the way for the Bison with 23 points and had help from her teammates: Sierra “CeCe” Mayo who finished with 15 points, and Alexandra DeBeatham who had 14 points.

For tomorrow’s games, Colonie will play Averill Park in a consolation game first, and then Catholic Central will battle Shaker for the crown in the second game.
