Reports Indicate Yet Another Athlete Attacked In Rio

Rio de Janeiro,Brazil — Another day, another PR nightmare for the Rio Olympics. This time a member of the British delegation was allegedly robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, according to this report from The Guardian.  Although this report is somewhat sketchy, it is coming from a credible outlet and given recent events, it isn’t exactly far-fetched to think that this might have happened.

As a result of this recent attack British track and field officials sent out a warning email to their athletes.

“Rio is NOT a safe environment, and the level of crime has spiked in the last few days,” it adds. “Think very carefully about whether it is worth the risk of leaving the village to celebrate after you have finished competing – BOA/UKA staff cannot guarantee your safety when away from the village/British School/British House. Our strong advice is that it is simply not worth the risk given the current climate in Rio.”

This after today’s dog and pony show surrounding Ryan Lochte and what may(or may not) have happened in a similar incident early Sunday morning.
