Porcello rolls, Offense delivers

@Connor Friend

Rick Porcello again brought his best yesterday and also picked up his MLB leading 18th win this season and remained undefeated at Fenway Park since August of last year. Porcello has truly been a blessing for the sox who have found a reliable starter that delivers when they need it most. The offense again showed its stripes, with Mookie Betts hitting his 30th homer of the season and continues to compile his MVP caliber season. Other notables include Brock Holt who went 3-for-5 with 2RBIs in the absence of Dustin Pedroia, Travis Shaw also picked up a 3 hit effort. The Red Sox would go on to win 9-4 off of 7 innings of 3 run ball from Porcello. In the second game tonight with the Rays Drew Pomeranz goes for revenge against the Rays who defeated him last week. Pomeranz (10-10 2.95ERA) faces off against Jake Odorizzi (9-5 3.53ERA).

THINGS TO WATCH FOR; Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia returns to the lineup after taking 2 days off to deal with a family matter. Pedroia almost broke history recently collecting 11 consecutive hits on 12 at bats, he would’ve tied a record of he picked up a 12th. He returns to a lead off spot that has fitted him nicely and he is hitting .398 in August.

Sox reliever Koji Uehara will expect to return this coming Labor Day from a pectoral issue that sidelined him for 2 weeks. He will join a struggling Sox bullpen that is in need of late innings high stress situation relievers.

Rays starter Jake Odorizzi is 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA in 7 starts at Fenway Park. His last outing against the Sox was in the Trop where he went 7 innings allowing only 1 run.

Sox outfielder Mookie Betts made history yesterday being the 3rd Red Sock ever to hit 30 home runs before turning 24, he joins Ted Williams and Tony Conigliaro as the only to achiever the feat.

Rays infielder Matt Duffy is a lifetime 4-for-12 against Pomeranz, he only has one extra base hit however against him.
